Drive Power

Process

I. THOROUGH CLEANING

Every Drive Power remanufactured transmission is disassembled; and, then thoroughly cleaned to remove contaminants which could result in premature wear to gears, bearings, shafts and other precision components (like the valve body). This cleaning process involves: individual-component washing; careful inspection of all parts; and, then the bushing surfaces are polished, to a micro-finish, in order to extend life-cycles.

II. NEW PARTS

Each remanufactured transmission receives a standard set of both new and qualified parts. Our standard parts replacement assures smooth, consistent performance and a long-unit life. Our remanufactured transmissions are assembled only by highly-skilled technicians who specialize in particular transmission models.

III. EXACT TOLERANCES

Cases / valve bodies are resurfaced and inspected in order to quantify the roughness of shaft finishes enabling the Company to maintain exact standards / precise tolerances in all phases of the remanufacturing process.

IV. VALVE BODIES AND TESTING

All valve bodies in each of the remanufactured units are completely disassembled and remanufactured by skilled technicians. All components of the valve body are inspected for wear and the valve body is resurfaced for correct mating and sealing with the transmission case. The valve bodies are thoroughly tested on machines which simulate actual vehicle operation. Vehicle speed and driver demand are varied hydraulically. The Company’s testing machines are able to pinpoint cracks and imperfections, and then verify accurate shift points.

V. INSPECTION

Internal transmission components are inspected at each of the assembly stations to ensure all assembly to this point is correct before additional assembly is performed. Pressurized fluid and special fixtures are used to test leakage. Every Drive Power transmission is dynamometer tested with recorded inspections to shift patterns and shift pressures. Stall tests, fluid-leak tests, lockup tests (where applicable) and park tests are performed. The series of tests are made at varying RPMs and at both full and closed-throttle positions in this final inspection process.

VI. QUALITY CONTROL / TESTING

Consistent quality is maintained through continuous training programs reinforced through statistical-process control techniques. Weekly disassemblies of certain production transmissions are also performed. All areas of the transmission are scrutinized.

VII. TORQUE CONVERTERS

Opened to allow for thorough cleaning / inspection and replacement of washers, spacers, springs, rollers, and a new or re-lined lock-up clutch piston, as applicable. All of the: turbine fins are inspected and retightened and welded on specific applications; hubs are carefully inspected and replaced; and, the converters are pressure-tested and dynamically balanced to eliminate vibration that could cause noise, leaks or possible transmission damage.
